John Alexander Scaramucci
‘A Man for All Seasons’
Dec. 5, 1947 – Sept. 8, 2021
John died peacefully at home, after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer, with his family around him. He was fiercely proud and protective of his loved ones, and will always be remembered for his loyalty, strength and kindness.
He was the owner/operator of GNS/Mermaid Water Systems and Harry Goldman Water Testing for the past 25 years. Hailing from Port Washington, N.Y., he graduated from Chaminade High School and studied at Alfred and Columbia universities, then moved to Mattituck in 1970.
Among other things, he was a home builder, a craftsman, a waterman, a hunter, an archer, a fisherman, a skier, a motocross rider, a photographer and a conga player. He was a member of Southold Kiwanis Club, Peconic River Sportsman’s Club and Mattituck Gun Club, where he formerly served as president and annually taught the hunter safety course. He also coached and sponsored teams in Mattituck-Cutchogue Little League. He should truly be considered “a man for all seasons.”
He was the loyal husband of Cissy, with whom he recently celebrated their 36th anniversary. He was a loving father to three sons: Jason, Mark and Johnny; father-in-law to Dorothy and grandfather to Julian. He was the son of Jeanne and Orlando “Scarry” and brother to Celeste and Jimmy. He was also an uncle, a brother-in-law, an adviser and a friend to many. He was always willing to set a project aside when someone needed a helping hand.
Services were held at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue on Monday, Sept. 13, with burial at Cutchogue Cemetery.
Contributions can be made in John’s name to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, East End Hospice or Mattituck Fire Department.
