Swimming instructor finally emerges to save town’s program

Swimming lessons in Southold Town will proceed after all.

The town recreation department announced Friday it had hired a certified swimming instructor to lead a pair of two-week lessons for children ages 4 and older this summer. The department was struggling to find an instructor for the second straight year. Last year was the first time the department did not offer a swimming lessons program since recreation supervisor Ken Reeves joined in 1987. 

The programs will run from July 13-24 at Veteran’s Beach in Mattituck and July 27-Aug. 7 at Founders Landing in Southold.

Registration is required and can be done by mail or in person. Registration forms can be downloaded here.

The cost for residents is $23 and $28 for non-residents.
